USDL announces $10 million grant program for energy trades training

The Employment and Training Administration arm of the U.S. Department of Labor has just announced a new competition for $10 million in grant money. The program is designed to encourage hiring and training of workers in the energy industry.

“There is a shortage of energy workers in this country,” says Elaine L. Chao, U.S. Secretary of Labor. “This $10 million grant competition under the President’s High Growth Job Training Initiative will help workers access the training they need to get good paying jobs in the growing energy industry.”

Orgnanizations (including for-profits and non-profits) can propose training strategies that target skills and competencies in demand by the energy industry. The strategies proposed must also give participants means to achieve long-term career growth and they must result in training program participants earning an industry-recognized degree or license demonstrating a level of competence in a specific trade or job.
