Canadian federal government pledges $13.4 million to next WorldSkills Competition

The Canadian federal Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has pledged to contribute $13.4 million to the WorldSkills Competition in Calgary in 2009.  Minister of Human Resources Monte Solberg announced the money at a press conference, saying, “The Government of Canada is committed to creating the best educated, most skilled, and most flexible work force in the world. Our partnership with WorldSkills Calgary 2009 will showcase the talents of Canada‘s young skilled work force. It will also ensure that more Canadians consider opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies, and will encourage more business that depend on skilled workers to invest in Canada.”

Over 900 competitors from 48 different countries are expected to invade Calgary to compete for medals in 40 skilled trades categories.
