Trading Up: new Canadian program helps women

God bless those Canadians and their programs to help people get back to work! The Canadian government has announced a new program called Trading Up that will target “disenfranchised women” and help them get back into school such as trade schools and other educaitonal programs to help them upgrade skills.

“Women have always had a history in the skilled trades and it makes good economic sense for more women to forge ahead in this area,” says Marie Heron, Executive Director of ON-TRACK, the non-profit agency that developed Trading Up. “Women are attracted to the ‘earn while you learn’ model of apprenticeship, a decent living wage and the prospect of business ownership, since 39 per cent of women in skilled trades own their own business.”
